“…We should try to stay on God’s good side. It’s not hard. God has extremely low standards. Pray, take care of people, be actively grateful for your blessings, give away your moneyyou’re cool. You’re in.”

II’m not sure I get her point (not having read her book). I agree with everything she said, except the “low standards” part. The things listed there are extremely challenging and, to be really consistent, require a real break from our American culture to a degree that many (including ymself probably) do not fully comprehend.

Jesus said to be His disciple we must take up our own cross and follow Him. To me, that’s a pretty high standard.
I’m extremely thankful for grace.

I believe her response has a lot to do with grace. Because of grace, it’s really not that hard to stay on God’s good side. As Paul said in Romans, there is nothing that can separate us from God’s love. In that sense, you’re saying the very same thing she said.

I would add to my above comment by stating there are a great many “non-Christians” who do an amazing job of “tak[ing] care of people, be[ing] actively grateful for [their] blessings, [and] give away [their] money.” Some (myself included) would argue that they more accurately reflect the nature and character of God than a believer who has all the “right” theologican answers, but fails to exhibit any of these traits.
