fleshy

I’m not even sure I should share this as it will either confirm your cynicism about Christians or scare you. (There is, I suppose, what I hope is the outside chance that you’ll feel right at home watching it, but that’s really scary.)

A friend of mine (Kester) emailed me this link. Watch it all the way through (if you can bear it) and then tell me what you think.

Here’s what I think: You would be hard pressed to find a clearer example of raw arrogance, close-minded-ness or legalism. Funny how much this guy reminds me of the Pharisees. Yeah, they would be the guys who killed Jesus.

I think the Emergent Church Movement does have areas in which it can be fairly criticized, but on the whole I am sympathetic towards it. It is a shame that people like this guy can not enter into loving, intelligent dialogue in order that the church may build itself up and strengthen one another. There IS a danger in churches being run almost entirely by young people, but that is as close as he gets to a legitimate point, and that point is completely nullified by his arrogance and condescending attitude. He never defines what the “emerging church” is He simply calls it names and lowers harshly worded attacks with no substance. We are told to “speak the truth in love.”

He neither spoke the truth nor did he speak in love, so he needs to remove himself from the discussion and stop embarassing the church.

Well that was fairly intense. Was that man born as a 60 year old. I can not imagine that he was ever young and stupid. Geeze huh well as everyone eles in this world I have sinned… just as he has. He must think he is a saint or something because he who has no sin shall throw the first stone… right? Anyhow thats not the point in my mind the point is that new minds and fresh ideas are what makes things more dynamic and diverse. Without young peoples imput christianity would not be appealing to anyone our age.

Im not saying we should be “fleshy” as young christians… Im saying that there are new issues in this world and with those the church must conform slightly. Not that the bible should change but that the members of the church should understand there are new temptations in this world that need to be addressed. Its not like 50-60 years ago there was no temptation.. It may have just been a different kind of temptation.

Anyhow I guess I have to many thoughts in my head about that to straighten them out. Hope you can get the gist of what im saying. Thanks for the posting Adam!

BTW since when Is it not ok to dance and praise God to fast paced music. (my only deturant from the church of christ.) The bible says that is what we will be doing in heaven, right?

He’s got other videos! Apparently this guy posts on YouTube on a fairly regular basis.

Which is ironic, given that pop culture technology is of the devil.

I think this guy is a nut, but that’s what I generally think about folks who work so hard at being critical in non-constructive ways. He just wants people to stop doing something he happens to be uncomfortable with.

And I’m with Jessica–since when is a catchy beat a sign of forth-coming damnation? So, hell’s going to be full of bad DJ’s? I love that he references the “evils of beat music” as though he’s referencing something we all know about and agree with. Like me saying the sky is blue. Studies have, in fact, shown beat music to be infectious, leading to chronic toe-tapping and even the occasional hip-sway. Youth of the world be warned!

As a member of the “submerging church” this guy I’m sure is committed to going down with the ship! My video froze up at the 4:03 mark so I missed the last 4 climatic minutes. I feel so…blessed!

Let me tell you, Terry, all you missed was the most entertaining part of the rant: the part where he blames the “evils” of the emergent church movement on “beat music”. I’m not kidding…
